Hark! Up-and-coming songwriters, bedroom recorders, dayjob artists, would-be hip-hop icons, listen up. This contest is for you. All unsigned, amateur drinking-aged souls with a love for beer and Brooklyn are invited to submit a song and a music video for a chance to win a trip to Stockholm for year two of the BROOKLYN, SWEDEN music and arts festival. The competition is stiff. The rules are simple.
Last year you poured your hearts and souls into songs about New Yorker\’s love/hate relationship with the infamous G-train of the MTA. The submissions we received blew our minds. From indie twee to modern rock radio-ready, you guys nailed it. Auto-tune reared its beautiful head to great effect but it was the New Wave homage of Teen Commandments that took the day. Our heros partied at BROOKLYN, SWEDEN, booked themselves shows around Europe, even brought back a Swedish girlfriend and became a real-live band. Talk about making the most of an opportunity.
You\’ve got a month to get your act together and send us a winning song. Your topic is rich with compelling content. The Coney Island boardwalk has history and then some. From being the USA\’s preimer amusement park to one of the last remnants of an old-world, seedy, oddball diversion, Coney Island has become part of the fabric of New York City\’s mythology. She even survived a big time beating from Superstorm Sandy, earlier this year. So hop on the subway and get down to the boardwalk. Spend some money at Paul\’s Daughter, ride the Wonder Wheel and get inspired. If you do it right we\’ll send you to Sweden.
